The Art Collection of Sparkasse Leipzig
The potential of great graphic art in the region of Leipzig was the reason for Sparkasse Leipzig to build up an art collection in the 90s. The art collection is conceptually focused on the artwork of the LEIPZIGER SCHULE (LEIPZIG SCHOOL) and, since then, continues to develop. So it accomplishes their task to conserve this artwork at the place of origin. The range embraces the main genres. Paintings, graphics, drawings and photographic art are also included as are ceramics and sculptures.
The collection, which comprises approximately 3,000 exhibits from 150 artists living in and around Leipzig, is by far the biggest collection LEIPZIGER SCHULE. Since the foundation of the Kunsthalle in 2001, there has been a place where the collection can gradually be presented publicly.
